YC Monaco

Monegasques set the tempo

A brisk beautiful breeze gusting 30 knots ensured a great spectacle at sea put on by the 20-plus crews enjoying the first day of Act 1 of the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series. Organised by Yacht Club de Monaco since 2013, this monthly regatta series is a great opportunity for international teams to drop anchor in the Principality to race throughout the winter and prepare for the upcoming season.

An eventful kick-off

A stiff westerly blew all day creating challenging conditions for contestants to make their mark on the leaderboard, with Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio showing his mastery of the elements and his boat. From the start, the crew on G-Spot asserted their domination. Pierrik Devic (Leonteq) is on their tail with an excellent 2nd place in the provisional ranking just ahead of Samuel Louis Poons (Charisma V). It may only be temporary but this evening the podium is entirely Monegasque with three Yacht Club de Monaco teams at the top of the table. The crews return tomorrow to Monaco Bay which will also be hosting the Smeralda 888 fleet, an opportunity for this racing class for Gentlemen to maintain their rhythm. Rendezvous Saturday 11.00am for the next round.
