The Eco-Responsible Approach of the Yacht Club de Monaco

In alignment with the UN’s sustainability goals and in accordance with H.S.H. Prince Albert II’s statement that “proof must replace promises,” the Yacht Club de Monaco is actively working to improve the environmental impact of its initiatives, both on land and at sea. This approach is in line with the various actions already implemented, such as the ISO 14001 certification obtained in June 2016, a management approach that grants the Y.C.M. the status of an eco-responsible company.

at sea

Dynamic buoys

The Yacht Club de Monaco uses dynamic positioning buoys for the organization of sporting events. These buoys, notable for their precision in geolocation, do not require mooring, which helps significantly reduce impact on the seabed. The use of these dynamic positioning buoys is part of our commitment to minimizing environmental impact during nautical events.

E-Fuel

For boats equipped with a diesel engine (and whose power and autonomy must exceed that of an electric unit), the YCM now uses BTL fuel. This is the case for its entire fleet of vessels including Tuiga, the flagship of the Y.C.M. and the committee boat. Named TL, this 100% sustainable eco-circular synthetic biofuel is derived from recycled cooking oils and guarantees an 85% reduction in carbon impact.

Electric boats

he Sports Section of the Yacht Club de Monaco currently operates five electric propulsion boats, regularly used for sailing courses as well as for the organization and conduct of regattas. This initiative reflects the club’s commitment to marine environment preservation by reducing polluting emissions and carbon footprint during nautical activities.

on land

Supply chain

The Yacht Club de Monaco is actively committed to developing a responsible purchasing policy, focusing on selecting local products and services that are not only sustainable and ethical but also designed to have a minimal environmental impact. This approach involves a rigorous evaluation of suppliers to ensure that the choices made align with principles of environmental respect.

FSC paper consumption

The Yacht Club de Monaco is also committed to reducing its ecological footprint by decreasing printing volumes and prioritizing the use of FSC-certified (Forest Stewardship Council) paper. This certification ensures that paper products come from responsibly and sustainably managed forests, thereby contributing to the preservation of forest ecosystems.

on land

Waste management

The Club implements a rigorous waste management system, aiming to reduce, reuse, and recycle as much as possible, and to treat waste that cannot be recycled in an environmentally friendly manner. An effective recycling program is in place to minimize waste. This includes the separation and recycling of materials such as plastic, metal, glass, and paper. In 2024, a new initiative was launched at the Yacht Club de Monaco: upcycling certain event tarps. This project is carried out in collaboration with AMAPEI, making it both an ecological and community-driven project. It aims to give a second life to our signage, converting it into products that are both useful and aesthetically pleasing, while supporting responsible consumption and reinforcing our community engagement.

YCM Fleet

The Yacht Club de Monaco provides its staff with a fleet of electric and hybrid vehicles to facilitate their travel. This initiative is part of a clear commitment to promoting more eco-friendly and environmentally respectful transportation methods. By integrating these sustainable mobility solutions into its daily operations, the Yacht Club reaffirms its commitment to environmental preservation while encouraging its staff to adopt more responsible habits. This approach helps reduce the carbon footprint of its activities and aligns with global sustainable development goals.
